All About Extreme Couponing Northwest
I decided to start Extreme Couponing Northwest after so many friends, family and even strangers in line behind me while shopping, have asked “How do you do that?!?!” I love teaching others how I am able to save tons of money for my family, but I realized it takes a lot of time to explain exactly how to extreme coupon.
A few months after I started couponing, my mom mentioned I should start a website. If I had a website, I could stop spending so much time every week trying to teach and explain exactly what the best deals were for the week, what coupons to use, and in what order to do the transactions. I brushed off the idea, because at that time, there wasn’t a ton of people asking me each week what I was doing… and then the show premiered.
Before Extreme Couponing became a regular series, I never saw another couponer with a binder at any store. After the show started, it seemed any store I went to, there were ten other people with their binders, all “chasing” the same deal I was. It got pretty crazy in the area I live in. If you wanted something that was at an amazing price at Walgreens or Rite Aid, you had to be there when the doors opened Sunday morning. Usually there was a line of 7 to 10 other couponers just waiting to get in the store. The extreme couponing “trend” seems to have mellowed out a bit, but I expect it to come back with a vengeance when the second season premiers.
After the show, tons of people started asking me for help, and tell them exactly what to do. I tried my best to explain it to everyone, but it really became overwhelming and time consuming, explaining the same thing over and over. Don’t get me wrong, I love teaching people how to save money, but I felt as though too much of my time, better spent on other things, was being taken up by explaining the same thing to a lot of different people. That’s when my mom again mentioned, “You should start a website.” I thought about it for a week or so, and realized it would help me out, by only having to write the deals of the week out once, as well as everyone who asks for my help because they could come here and see the deals they would ask about!
Eric and I sat at home one night, trying to decide on a name for the site. We came up with so many different ideas, but we kept going back to Extreme Couponing Northwest. It just seemed perfect, cause it was exactly what I was doing, extreme couponing in the northwest! I registered the domain name, and then quickly realized I have no idea how to build a website…seriously, when Eric asked who I was going to have host the website, I had no idea what he was talking about! Thankfully, my sister Amy is an amazing, self taught web designer. We decided to partner up, she doing the technical “stuff” for the website, and I would write the articles and do the weekly deal match ups.
After being an “extreme couponer” for a year, I quickly forgot how complicated it can all seem when first starting out. As I was writing the “101” series, specifically Walgreens 101, I was amazed at all the “rules” that I follow every week without a second thought. I sent it to my sister, for her to read and give me feedback. She, being a complete coupon novice, was overwhelmed! We decided that, in addition to the 101 series, which is designed to help you to learn the “rules” and have them at hand anytime you need them, we would do a weekly post with her, learning the ropes as well! Amy will be doing simple transactions at Rite Aid and Walgreens, with the same information I will be posting here for you!. We hope it will show how easy it can be to become an extreme couponer!
Each week, we will bring you the coupon matchups, with stock up prices clearly marked, for Safeway, Albertsons, Fred Meyer, Rite Aid and Walgreens. Every day we will let you know of great deals, hot coupons and other ways to save your family money!
Building this website has been a labor of love. Both laughter and tears have been put into this website! (I’m serious! My pile of coupon inserts sat unclipped for 2 weeks since I was dedicating so much time to writing for the site! One Saturday night, I stayed up until 3 am, clipping my coupons that I needed for Rite Aid the next morning, beyond exhausted, knowing I had to be up in 3 hours, I cried! I could have skipped that day, but it was a HUGE week, and I couldn’t let my couponing buddy down.) I am beyond excited and proud to be able to help you become an extreme couponer! Please contact us with any questions you have! We sincerely thank you for visiting Extreme Couponing Northwest!
